Our story started in 1860 when August Schell built a brewery in New Ulm, Minnesota—and somehow, it's still standing. We've survived the Dakota War, Prohibition, and five generations of family drama (the good kind). Today, you can walk the same grounds August did, tour the family mansion, and see where we've been brewing beer for over 160 years. It's not just history—it's our home.

After 160 years without a gathering space, we opened our Bierhalle in 2021, where good beer and good company await. Stop by to enjoy traditional, seasonal, and limited-edition brews. Biergarten
Our Biergarten is closed for the season. While our Bierhalle is open year-round daily, the Biergarten ordering window is mainly open from Memorial Day through Labor Day during weekend live music events. Check out the event calendar to catch the next show and enjoy a fresh pour under our infamous Biergarten.

I stopped by one day to take the brewery tour and it was awesome. The tour guide was fantastic - very informational and had several stories to tell about the company and brewery. The place itself is also very cool - full of stunning architecture and vintage technology. I’d definitely recommend stopping by to take the tour if you have the chance. Very cool.
We toured on Wed Aug 6th at 2:30 pm, with Wendy. She was very knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining! Have been on a lot of brewery tours and this one was by far our favorite! The history behind Schell's is truly remarkable! And the beer is great too!
Amazing hidden gem in the woods enriched in history- a must stop off the main highway- great beer loved the sangria- and super place to have a meeting. Beautiful property

A wonderful experience! The museum is educational, the tour is informative and engaging, and the Bier Hall is wonderful! I go about twice a year and have always had a wonderful time! This is worth your time and money!
